Indy Craft Pass – On the Quest

Indy Craft Pass – On the Quest

Hoppy has been negligent and forgetful in acquiring the necessary check-ins (35), in order to receive a ceramic stein, by completing the requirements of Indy Craft Pass. His efforts in obtaining the necessary check-ins, within a ten day period, will be documented on this blog. (Please note: Participants have a full YEAR to complete the process, but Hoppy is running short on his year’s time period.)

If you should attempt to do the same, please remember to wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands. Also, if doing more than one check-in in a day, please limit your alcohol consumption, have a designated driver, or use a rideshare company.

Soak up the Suds – The Good, the Bad & the Ugly by Gary Dean

Soak up the Suds – The Good, the Bad & the Ugly by Gary Dean

I attended the “2nd Annual Soak up the Suds Brewfest” that took place in Seymour yesterday.

The Good:

Although there were a limited number of breweries/wineries/distilleries participating, there were a good number and variety of tastings provided by those who were present. These included Bier Brewery, Ellison Brewery, Hard Truth Spirits/Quaff On! Brewing, Hog Molly Brewing, Hoosier Brewing, Huckleberry Hill Winery, Planetary Brewing, Salt Creek Brewery and St. Benedict’s Brew Works.

It was a very safe environment at Crossroads Community Park with the participating vendors wearing face masks and the outdoor setting allowing for appropriate spacing.

To top it all off, it was a beautiful, sunny day in Seymour!

The Bad:

It was disappointing that some of the confirmed participants did not show up at the event. This included Cardinal Spirits, Chateau de Pique Winery/Brewery and Goodwood Brewing.

However, their non-attendance gave my wife and I an excuse to visit the Chateau de Pique Winery/Brewery, which is also located in Seymour. There we enjoyed the beer, wine and cheese, the excellent service from Susan, and we made some new friends!

The Ugly:

Okay, I have to admit that the commemorative “Soak up the Suds” pilsner tasting glass is kind of cute, but it is listed under the ugly, because, as a collecter of brewery and festival glasses, I much prefer actual glassware and not a plastic imitation.

Any visit to Seymour would be incomplete without checking out the John Mellencamp mural on the east wall of This Old Guitar Music Store at 106 W. Second St.

The Ram Restaurant/Big Horn Brewery Closes Permanently

The Ram Restaurant/Big Horn Brewery Closes Permanently

The Ram Restaurant and Big Horn Brewery, which had been a fan favorite prior to, or after, Indianapolis sporting events, has made the decision to permanently close its Indianapolis location. It did not reopen after the COVID-19 outbreak.

This information was verified in a personal phone call, by myself, to their corporate office in Lakewood, WA.

Bier Brewery Drink for a Cause – Tragic House Fire

Bier Brewery Drink for a Cause – Tragic House Fire

Bier Brewery has announced that they will be donating $1 for every pint sold this week (7/7-7/12) at both of their locations to the TenBarge family. Bier employee Adrienne, her husband, and their three beautiful children, lost their home and all of their belongings in a tragic house fire that was caused by fireworks, that were set off in the neighborhood, while they were home sleeping. For more information, and a list of items that can be donated, check out the Bier Brewery Facebook page.

Also, Missy Patton, of Bier Brewery North, has organized a Go Fund Me page to assist in supporting the family. Should you wish to donate, you may access the page here.
