SCARLET LANE BREWING – McCORDSVILLE

Hoppy visited the Scarlet Lane Brewery and Taproom in McCordsville on Sunday, May 15th, a day after their 8th anniversary celebration! Scarlet Lane has three other taprooms in the Indianapolis area (See the beerblogIN post on the Scarlet Lane Gastropub), is a woman owned business, and their CEO, Eilise Lane, is also their head brewer.

While there, Hoppy enjoyed the Tiberius West Coast DIPA at 8% ABV, 100IBU.

GUGGMAN HAUS WINS AGAIN!

Guggman Haus was voted Best Brewery in Indy by viewers of FOX59. This came just days after being named the Best Brewery in Indiana by Yelp. Hoppy believes that his visit there last Saturday may have been the catalyst for the awards! (lol)

The other finalists for the Fox59 award were Cedar Creek in Martinsville, Metazoa in Indy and Moontown in Whitestown.

HOOSIER BREWERS RAKE IN NINE MORE MEDALS AT THE 2022 WORLD BEER CUP

HOOSIER BREWERS RAKE IN NINE MORE MEDALS AT THE 2022 WORLD BEER CUP!

by Gary Dean

Indiana breweries took home nine medals at the 2022 World Beer Cup last week. The Hoosier State was the only state in the country, outside of California, that had two breweries that won at least three medals! This was accomplished by Metazoa and Sun King who each won three medals. The other Indiana medal winners were Moontown, Shoreline and ZwanzigZ. These breweries combined for a total of three gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The World Beer Cup is organized by theย Brewers Association, the not-for-profit trade association dedicated toย small and independentย American brewers, their beers and the community of brewing enthusiasts.ย  It has taken place on a biennial basis, with the exception of 2020, when it was canceled due to COVID-19. Beginning next year this will change to an annual event..

This year’s competition included 10,542 beers from 2,493 breweries representing 57 countries and 103 beer styles. (The complete list of medal winners can be found here.) This year’s Indiana winners were as follows:

KLOOZ BREWZ

KLOOZ BREWZ BREWERY AND PUBLIC HOUSE

Hoppy visited Klooz Brewz Brewery and Public House in Lebanon yesterday afternoon. Of particular interest in the pub, are pieces of history utilized and displayed which were found during their renovation process.

During his visit, he enjoyed their flagship IPA known as 1832 IPA. It is described as an American IPA with notes of citrus, lime and tropical flavors with a touch of cedar. It was inspired by the pioneer settler who founded Lebanon in 1832. It clocks in at a very low (for IPAs) 5% ABV but delivers bountiful flavor with its 70 IBUs.

He also sampled the following:

The Last Laugh DIPA – DDH featuring Strata, Bergamot and Mosaic hops in a juicy Double IPA. 7.5% ABV 70 IBU

Nameless DIPA – Double New England Style IPA which is juicy, dank and loaded with over 20 lbs. of hops. 8% ABV 85 IBU

While there, Hoppy ran into his friends from Indiana On Tap, who were there prepping for the upcoming Savor Lebanon Festival scheduled for May 7th. Hoppy is a member of the Indiana On Tap Tasting Society Marketplace and would recommend that you take advantage of their six month membership offer if you plan on attending Savor Lebanon. (See Here.)
